How do you pay for kalle pache at Shaun the Sheep?
Paying is the least complicated part of the meal. At our table on Jumeira Street in Jumeirah 1 you can settle with cash or a card, and digital payments from a phone or watch work too. Nothing has to be arranged in advance, and nobody asks you to pick a method when you sit down. Order first, eat while the broth is hot, then pay at the end.
If you are ordering to your home or office instead, payment happens earlier: the card goes through on shaunfood.com before the kitchen ever sees the order. That difference catches out first-time customers, so it helps to know which door you are coming through.
Cash or card in the restaurant — which should you bring?
Whichever you already have. Cards and cash are both accepted in the restaurant, and contactless payment from a phone is ordinary here. Visitors sometimes assume a small specialist kitchen serving lamb cheek, tongue and trotters in the small hours must be cash only. Ours is not.

Is tipping expected at a restaurant in Dubai?
Tipping is customary in Dubai and genuinely appreciated, but it is never compulsory. As a rule a service charge is not added automatically to a bill here, so anything you leave is your own decision rather than a line somebody else wrote for you. Rounding the total up is the normal gesture, and leaving nothing on a quiet night is not an insult.
Cash on the table is the most direct route to the people who served you. If you would rather add something to a card payment, say so before the payment is taken, because it cannot be attached afterwards.
How do you split the bill at a shared kalle pache table?
Kalle pache is a sharing meal by nature. A Special Mix or a six-person platter arrives in the middle and everyone reaches in, which makes an itemised split awkward. In practice one person settles the whole bill and the others square up between themselves afterwards, by transfer or in cash.
Asking to split is completely fine, though. Mention it before the bill is prepared rather than after, and say how many ways you want it. Agreeing on this before you order saves the arithmetic at the end; our guide to organising a group order goes through it properly.
How does payment work on shaunfood.com?
You build the order, choose delivery, pickup or a later time, and pay by card at checkout. The payment is taken before the order is made, which is why the site asks for it up front. Delivery reaches all 141 Dubai areas, and the fee for your own area appears at checkout before you confirm, so nothing is bolted on later. Do you pay the delivery rider at the door?
No. The rider brings food, not a card machine, and there is nothing to settle on the doorstep, because the order and its delivery fee were already paid on the site.
